Philadelphia trio Psychic Teens have a lot to live up to, having released one of the best albums of 2013 in Come. The band’s loud, heavy and refreshingly stark approach to post-punk leaves an indelible impression on the listener, with nods to ’80s goth, doom rock, noise and heavy metal creating something that nods to pretty much every subculture without outright lifting anything from any of them. Their eardrum-crushing, neighbor-agitating live performances add another layer to their prowess—they’re loud to the point of delightful disorientation, as if you and the band are underwater.
